Hong Kong Markets

Hong Kong has a thriving market scene packed full of people. Many markets sell fresh produce, others have small stalls selling random items from local wares to fake copied goods. Goods here are really cheap and you can always haggle and try and lower the price of goods.

ChungKing Express
Wong Kar-wai’s art house film named after the ChungKing Mansions building in Tsim Sha Tsui, featured illegal immigrants looking to purchase passports. True to life the building has a flux of ethnic minorities and targets them accordingly with many foreign money changes and many Indian related shops ranging from fresh produce, clothing to restaurants. Supposedly accommodation here is rock bottom, not that you’d want to stay here, but it does show a different side of Hong Kong.



Wan Chai Spring Market
This was mainly a goods market with lots of small stores selling your usual HK market selection. We did pass a snake eatery if snakes are your kind of thing.

Wong Tai Sin Market
This is predominately a food market selling a wide choice of fresh vegetables, fruit, seafood/fish and poultry including live chickens.



Yes you can even pick a live chicken and have it ‘prepared’ on the spot. Not particularly pleasant but it is fresh. Some locals don’t take chances with all the bird flu issues that have plagued SE Asia and wear facemasks.
